EAM's ARF (Almost Ready to Fly) Velocity XL is scaled to 1:4.6, bringing the model dimensions to an IMAA legal 80" wing span.
The model flies exceptionally well. Stall behavior is predictable canard 'bobbing', and the swept wing provides wonderful lateral stability. Each rudder operates independently, pushing the inboard rudder outward in a turn. The aircraft is so stable and rudder sufficiently effective that you could likely fly the model on just three channels (Rudder, elevator and Throttle.) (Editor's Note: Notice we said likely, we're not particularly recommending it!)
The model flies to scale, so is reasonably swift and graceful in its maneuvers. While the full scale aircraft is not intended for aerobatics, the EAM version will do many of the positive G aerobatic routines. It is not an aircraft meant to be taken vertical or "hovered". It is a scale model of a beautiful cross country high speed 4 place state-of-the-art aircraft.
The kit comes professionally factory covered in White 'Oracover', - a German high temperature high quality covering. The white color allows the builder to custom finish the model similar to their own or a friends plane, or develop their own paint scheme using the model. The formed aluminum gear easily supports the 14-15 lb flying weight of the aircraft, and the aluminum spar and twin 1/4-20 nylon wing bolts in each wing makes field assembly easy and quick. The winglets are easily removed, with the servos and rudder linkage fully intact. But . . . the good news is, disassembly for transport is not necessary! The model fits fully assembled sideways in a mini-van!
The aircraft operates with a four channel radio (The Velocity does not use flaps), utilizing six or eight servos - depending upon whether the modeler wishes to install rudder function. With eight servos they are: Two (2) for rudders, outboard on the wing tips, (1) for nose wheel steering, (1) for throttle, (2) for ailerons, and (2) for elevators.
Kit hardware includes all hardware necessary for flight (pushrods, control surface horns, fuel tank, wing and landing gear fasteners, engine mount, remote fuel filler, fuel line, etc.) The builder need only add engine, pusher prop, muffler and radio to go fly with about 25 hours of assembly time.
We recommend a 1.20 2 cycle engine for this model. The weight of a necessarily upsized four cycle engine so far aft of the CG would require dead weight in the nose for counter balance, requiring the canard to lift even more - which further extends the aircrafts take-off run. (Remember the canard does not benefit from any prop wash!)
We now offer a 'Firewall Aft' kit for our Velocity model, comprised of the OS 1.20AX, Perry pump, a three bladed pusher prop, a reverse cut Aluminum Spinner and a custom Bisson muffler with twin pipes pointing aft through the prop!
